Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! I am excited to be back in person working with each of you to provide the best experience possible for our students. This year my goal is to make as much music as possible in a way that is safe, effective, and engaging for all students. We will learn how to perform, listen, and discover the joy of creating music. It is fantastic to be back in the classroom making music again and we already have many things to look forward to this year!
The pandemic presented many challenges for us to overcome. Online learning, new safety protocols, and an ever changing environment made the past few years difficult for everyone. It will be up to all of us to make sure we keep moving forward and are prepared for anything! I am confident in our students, school, and community in that we will continue facing these challenges with commitment and resolve.
Kindergarten through 3rd grade now have access to Quaver, a new online music curriculum focused on performance, engagement, and fun! Quaver can be used in and out of the classroom and has been highly effective at both Index and Skykomish. If you have any questions, feel free to check out Quaver and contact me anytime. As for the 4th-8th graders, they are learning woodwind and brass instruments in the Index band! They have been working hard to read music, rhythms, and to perform together as a group!
As for concerts, the winter and spring programs are back on the schedule for the first time since the pandemic! We are excited to be able to share our music with the community again! As we get closer to concert time, we will provide details on what to expect and make sure students, parents, and community members are able to enjoy our performances in a safe environment. We’ll make sure to share any other music opportunities as we discover them!
If you have any questions regarding the music program here at Index please contact me at any time and I hope to see you at some of our events throughout the year!
